Today’s guest is Mariko Hirakawa.
In her late twenties, Mariko transitioned from being a professional ballet and contemporary dancer to becoming a full-time Yoga instructor. Now, with nearly 30 years of experience, Mariko is an Ayurvedic Practitioner, speaker and consultant, the innovator of Ayurvedic Flow Yoga, performer and choreographer of YogaDance, and the author of an international bestselling book called The Yoga of Personal Development.
Warm up Q & A:
Who would you wish happiness for right now?
“I think Donald Trump needs to be happy. As the leader of the country, he should be less reactive and come from more of a centered place.”
What’s something about you, a hobby or fascination, that not too many people know about?
“These days I’ve been watching clips of figure skaters. I think it’s so beautiful to watch. But also, the mental game of the competition really inspires me.”
Thinking of all the things you’ve improved upon with your Yoga practice, what’s the one thing you’re most proud of?
“Ashtanga Yoga has been my personal practice for a long time. I’ve made some tweaks to that primary series that were kinder to my body. The main improvement I’ve made is to tread that balanced space between alignment and flow.”
If this interview were wildly successful, what would that look like to you?
“If I can impact somebody’s mind, heart, and the way they see the world and the way they show up in the world, I would consider that wildly successful.”
